If you’ve been curious about exploring our movement-focused, health-forward, and joy-filled approach to training; aerial hoop is a beautiful place to begin. Aerial isn’t just an epic fitness program; it’s movement medicine that deepens your relationship with your body, and unlocks creativity and self-expression.
At Elevated Aerial Studio in Kalispell, Montana, all of our aerial classes are intentionally designed for every body and every experience level (including total beginners).
What Is Aerial Hoop?
Aerial hoop (also called lyra) is a suspended steel circle that lets you explore poses while gently building strength and mobility. It’s a beautiful blend of fitness, dance and choreography, art and aesthetics, yoga and movement.
Aerial hoop is more playful than a typical workout; and an empowering way to discover what your body can do!
Why Total Beginners Love It
Most new students walk in wondering whether they’re strong enough and leave class feeling proud, capable, and excited for more.
Here’s what beginners tell us they love most:
Our single-session classes make it easy to try aerial without a big commitment.
Foundational moves are accessible on day one, so you feel successful right away.
Strength builds naturally through fun, guided challenges.
Classes feel creative and expressive rather than repetitive or intimidating.
Everyone progresses at their own pace. There is no pressure, no comparison.
More Than Fitness
Many students come to their first aerial hoop class looking for a workout and discover something much bigger.
There is something powerful about accomplishing something you once believed was impossible; once you realize you are capable of more than you gave yourself credit for.
Aerial hoop challenges you physically, but it also invites you to grow mentally and emotionally. As your strength increases, so does your confidence. As your skills develop, so does your belief in what is possible. Many students find that the courage they build in class begins showing up in other areas of their lives as well.
At Elevated Aerial, we believe there is often unused potential waiting to be discovered. Our goal isn't simply to teach aerial skills; it's to help you uncover the strongest, most empowered version of yourself through movement.
A Space Designed for New Students
We specialize in creating a safe, uplifting atmosphere for people who are brand new to aerial. Whether you’re trying this for fun or fitness, we meet you where you are and help you discover the strength that’s already within you.
Support Beyond the Physical
One of the reasons beginners thrive at Elevated Aerial is that our teaching philosophy goes beyond physical instruction.
Founder Mindy Cochran's background in life coaching influences the way classes are structured and taught. Our instructors are skilled at helping students build confidence alongside strength. We celebrate progress, encourage curiosity, and create an environment where mistakes are simply part of the learning process. You don't have to be fearless to begin. You simply have to be willing to take the first step.
We believe that when people are supported, challenged appropriately, and given space to grow, incredible things become possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need upper body strength to start aerial hoop?
No. Our beginner classes are designed specifically for people who are new to aerial fitness. Strength develops naturally as you train.
Am I too old to start aerial hoop?
Not at all. We work with students of many ages and backgrounds. Progress is individualized, and classes are designed to help you build strength and confidence safely.
What should I wear to aerial hoop class?
Comfortable athletic clothing that covers the backs of your knees is ideal. A shirt that is long enough to be tucked in is great, or a leotard might be even better. We recommend avoiding zippers, jewelry, or anything that could damage equipment.
How long does it take to see progress?
Most students experience success in their very first class. Consistent practice helps build strength, skills, and confidence over time.
